Lovingly restored, Jordans Mill provides the visitor with a fascinating insight into the heritage of flour milling in Britain and the unique story of the Jordan family.

Fortunately much of the machinery survived. The Mill has now been completely restored. It is a Grade II listed building with three fully accessible floors.

The Mill produces stoneground flour which is suitable for bread making and is available to purchase in our gift shop.

The Mill and its adjoining 8.5 acre local nature reserve is a registered charity completely run by volunteers.

KNEBWORTH TOUR - 1.30 PM

(Unguided)

Set in 250 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside,
Knebworth House is one of England's most colourful stately homes. It is remarkable for having been in the Lytton family for more than 500 years. Its romantic gothic exterior complete with turrets, domes and gargoyles conceals a much older Tudor red brick house.

There have been gardens at Knebworth House since at least the 17th Century, but the present layout dates largely from the Edwardian era. The architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, who married into the Lytton family, simplified the ornate beds and statuary of the Victorian garden with lawns and avenues of pollarded lime trees.

Wander at your leisure through the delightful 28 acre gardens which now include a maze, the organically run walled kitchen garden and the Gertrude Jekyll Herb Garden. There is also a Dinosaur Trail, where 72 life-sized dinosaurs can be found grazing amongst the rhododendrons and the Redwoods.

AFTERNOON TEA AND CAKE

Enjoy tea and cake in the Garden Terrace Tea Room, our home-made cakes are particularly popular with visitors.

HITCHIN LAVENDER

(Duration approx 1 hour)

Lavender has a significant history in Hitchin when, as a market town in the sixteenth Century, it was one of only two major lavender growing areas in the country.

Our family have farmed at Cadwell for more than 100 years. A predominant- ly arable farm, lavender was introduced in 2000 to diversify from traditional farming. Today there are 20 acres of lavender where you can walk through the rows and where you are invited to pick your own fresh flowers.

Enjoy a short stroll around the farm (with strategically placed benches) where you will learn about the history of lavender in Hitchin and on the farm; the uses of lavender; the different varieties we grow; the wildlife it attracts and how we harvest the flower.

AFTERNOON TEA OR COFFEE

Enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee inside our 17th Century barn, where you can purchase some of the dozens of products made using our lavender oil.
