Get cereally fit at Jordans Mill this January

Christmas is a time for giving but for many of us it's also a time for over indulging and gaining a few excess pounds.

With the average Brit set to put on average of two and up to nine pounds this festive season, lots of us will be looking for a way to shed the additional weight come January.

Jordans Mill in Broom near Biggleswade has the perfect solution to Christmas excess - Fit Happens at Jordans Mill. These new fitness classes run by local trainer Jeff Beck will be a fun yet effective way to lose weight as well as improve fitness and overall wellbeing.

Fit Happens is the brainchild of Jordans Mill’s Tom Baker, an Army veteran and now Site Manager at the Bedfordshire heritage attraction. Tom’s Army training instilled a strong sense of fitness discipline which extends to healthy eating as well as exercise, a discipline that is linked closely to Jordans Mill’s own ethos.

Tom said: “Jordans Mill has a long history of producing healthy foods starting first with flour milling and then the production of oat based cereals and snacks, and through our Riverside Café, Mill Gardens and now Fit Happens we are continuing this focus on a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle.

“I have a personal interest in fitness and exercise and so have teamed up with Jeff to offer accessible and fun fitness classes to our customers. We know that lots of people like to start the New Year with good intentions and we hope that Fit Happens will encourage people to keep them up. Our classes start on 4th January and we’re running three registration events in December so people can find out more, and we’d love to see lots of people in January taking part in these new classes.”

Starting on 4th January, Fit Happens at Jordans Mill will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6am to 7am and on Saturdays from 7am to 8am. The course costs £45 for 12 sessions and is suitable for people of varying fitness levels and abilities.

Anyone interested and looking to find out more can come along to one of three registration events taking place at Jordans Mill in December to meet Jeff Beck, the trainer, and discuss their fitness goals.

Registration events are on Saturday 19th December from 10am until 11am, Tuesday 22nd December (time TBC) and Wednesday 30th December from 10am until 12pm. Check our website for updates on times.

This Christmas, learn how to create stunning floral displays at a floristry demonstration right here at Jordans Mill.

Talented florist Jenny Osbourne, who has over 20 years’ experience in floristry and is also a gardener at Jordans Mill, will be revealing insider tips and tricks of floristry as well as demonstrating a wide range of arrangements on 15 December at 1.30pm.

The demonstration will include tips on how to choose and condition fresh material, how to create displays such as mantelpiece arrangements, table centres, garlands, wall hangings and bud vases, a demonstration on bow making with step by step instructions and the opportunity for participants to have a go, and florist tips on wiring sundries and adapting displays for the festive season.

This workshop is ideal for those new to floristry or indeed those looking to brush up on their skills.
